Examples of Detailed Job Descriptions

In addition to earning a degree, you’ll also need experience.

Many employers will consider class projects, internships, part-time jobs, and volunteer positions you held while attending college as relevant experience.

Early in your college career, study job descriptions to determine what experiences you will need on your resume to qualify for the job you desire after graduation. You’ll have more time to acquire these experiences before you graduate and begin applying for positions in the field. The Leighton Career Planning Office can help.

Below are some examples of international business job descriptions. Some of the duties may be unfamiliar to you now.  Do not worry, you’ll understand more as you take classes and progress in the major.

  • International Sales Representative
    • Manage the international sales of products in 12 countries
    • Participate in bidding on non-U.S. government projects
    • Promote products and increase sales in new markets by designing culturally appropriate ad campaigns
    • Develop and maintain working relationships with store owners and store managers to serve as their product expert
    • Participate in relationship marketing by conducting effective "1 to 1" consumer engagements through the understanding of consumer marketing brand strategies
    • Qualifications: Bachelor degree, two years sales experience, ability to receive a U.S. passport.  Preferred: ability to speak/write in more than one language, especially Spanish; experience with non-U.S. cultures
  • International Business Development Coordinator
    • The International Business Development Coordinator position is responsible for all sales related activities in international markets, including providing technical and sales assistance to the customer base through phone and e-mail contact, customer visits, and tradeshows
    • Identifies new market opportunities, seeks key market partners, and developing and training the country reps in how to best represent products
    • Qualifications: Bachelor degree, competent computer skills, including e-mail, spreadsheets, word processing and database applications; Ability to multitask effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • International Logistics Advisor
    • Assist with arrangement of ocean import shipments to include customs clearance, ISF, commercial invoicing and packing list requirements
    • Communicate with freight forwarders to obtain rate quotes and track/ trace ocean freight shipments; Keep international logistics database up-to-date; Review reports and coordinate with others to assure that orders are invoiced promptly
    • Analyze international business and manages Open Order reports, Terminal Loading report and sales reports; Responsible for coordination and logistics of international orders including receiving customer P.O. and P.O.S. requests
    • Qualifications: Bachelor degree in business, 2-3 years International background, advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite applications including Access and Excel (V-Lookups, pivot tables, formulas); Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
