Graduate Fellowships and Grants

Leighton Graduate Fellowships

Open to all students, the Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics Graduate Fellowship Program invites applications from students with a demonstrated record of excellence at the undergraduate level along with evidence or promise of a strong professional career. Each Leighton Fellow will receive up to $5,000* per year, renewable for two additional years, as long as the Fellow maintains a graduate business GPA of at least 3.0.

To be eligible for a Leighton fellowship, a student must:

  1. Have earned an undergraduate degree from an institution that meets the requirements for admission to graduate school at IU South Bend, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  2. Have scored at least 550 on the GMAT
  3. Complete all admission requirements and submit the Judd Leighton Graduate Fellowship Application Form by July 15 (for fall), November 15 (for spring), or April 15 (for summer)
  4. Receive full admission to the MBA program
  5. Enroll and complete at least 15 credit hours over a twelve month consecutive period (period starts from semester of admission) for each year awarded a Fellowship

Michiana Economic Development Award

This scholarship is designed to help develop a more educated workforce in the Metropolitan Statistical Area known as Michiana, which is defined by the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce as “counties that include Elkhart, La Porte, Marshall, St. Joseph and Starke in Indiana, and Berrien and Cass in Michigan.”

For graduate students, the scholarship allows for a limited number of qualified out-of-state students to receive an award of $300 per credit hour, with a maximum of 45 credit hours per student. The criteria is:

  • Must be a legal U.S. citizen, but not a resident of Indiana.
  • Full or part-time enrollment, with no break in enrollment (excluding summer terms).
  • Must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be admitted to a graduate program at the time the award is given.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 or higher graduate GPA.
  • Must maintain continuous enrollment for the fall and spring semesters.
