Examples of Job Descriptions

To get a professional-level position, you will need a degree AND experience. But what experience do you need? To find out, read job descriptions related to your major. Do this early in your college career.

The sooner you know what experiences employers want, the more time you will have to get them. Experience comes not only from paid jobs, but also from class projects, internships, club involvement and volunteer positions.

Below are a few examples of professional-level job descriptions (those requiring a bachelor degree). To find more, search the web for: "entry level jobs in (your major)."

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of six commercial analysts to deliver business analysis and marketing intelligence
  • Provide weekly business analysis, marketing intelligence and competitor analysis to executive team
  • Conduct contract negotiation
  • Establish marketing program KPIs and track performance, providing stop or continue recommendations
  • Establish monthly business targets and monitor trending performance, implementing remedial plans wherever adverse variances exist
  • Qualifications:Bachelor degree in business.  One year of demonstrated leadership in data analytics and report production and visualizations for upper management.  Experience with Power BI, SharePoint and Power Apps preferred. 
  • Develop and lead company’s social media lead-generation program, including optimized listening capabilities and automated escalation.
  • Lead team members and vendors to manage the social media advertising strategy for more than 60 social media accounts.
  • Oversee social media training program for all company departments.
  • Build relationship between online marketing team, graphic designers, brand development, customer service, and legal counsel.
  • Develop KPIs to ensure strategic goals and positive ROI are met.
  • Requirements: Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.  Excellent interpersonal relations and communicative skills and a customer-focused orientation.  2 years of content writing experience and 3 years social media management, content creation and Facebook Ads Manager.  Bachelor degree in business, or closely related field. 
  • Manage projects for design, development, implementation and maintenance of workflows with modules in the SAP environment.
  • Manage four budgets for these projects, ranging for $20K to $100K, achieving goals within budget.
  • Tactfully manage complex team dynamics, handling organizational change related issues, and foster an on-going positive environment for staff and customer base.
  • Create training programs and mentored teams on various technology initiatives.
  • Design forecasting revenue processes by brand and promotion vehicle and integrated forecast with trade promotion spending.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor degree in accounting, business, or related field. Proficient with Xero, QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Suite (with an expert knowledge of Excel). 3+ years of experience in a client-facing accounting role. Ability to construct workable solutions when presented with multiple conflicting points of view. PMP certification a plus.
